Celebration for a Grey Day (Guitar & Dulcimer)
Celebration for a Grey Day (Guitar & Dulcimer)
Bas-relief MetroCard collage
5H x 3.5 inches
A collage in honor of Mimi & Richard Fariña.
A poet, writer, and singer-songwriter, Richard Fariña was killed in a motorcycle accident after leaving a party celebrating the publication of his first novel, Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up to Me.
To add to the heartbreaking irony, this happened on the 21st birthday of his wife and singing partner, Mimi.
Fariña was a master of the Appalachian dulcimer just as Mimi was an extraordinary guitarist (and singer). A highlight of when I was a kid was meeting the Fariñas and getting their autographs.
So here, in their honor, and rendered in MetroCards, are a guitar and a dulcimer. Give their superb second album, “Reflections in a Crystal Wind ” a listen.
