“Van Tassel & Kearny Horse Auction Mart” – Many’s the time I strolled by this wonderful building a few blocks west of my home on East 13th Street but didn’t learn more about it until recently. Built in 1903-04, it once housed the Van Tassell & Kearney Horse Auction Mart. After that closed, it had many owners (including Frank Stella). A later owner thought it would be a great idea to demolish this beautiful building and replace it with a condo development, but luckily locals stepped in and it was declared a landmark around 2006. When I pass, I can almost hear the horses neighing... Stroll by sometime.
